About Course

This self-paced continuing education course features an in-depth, interview-style conversation between Troy Kane, LCMHCS, and Kelly Caniglia, LCMHC, a nationally recognized trauma-informed care clinician and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Grounded in somatic theory and contemporary trauma research, the course offers an accessible introduction to trauma, with particular attention to complex trauma, dissociation, and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

Drawing from Ms. Caniglia’s more than a decade of clinical work and advocacy with the DID community, learners will explore how trauma affects the nervous system, identity, emotional regulation, and the therapeutic relationship. The discussion emphasizes core principles of trauma-informed care, including safety, autonomy, co-regulation, and ethical pacing, while addressing common myths and misconceptions surrounding trauma and dissociation.

The course highlights practical, evidence-informed approaches informed by somatic and relational modalities such as EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, and mindfulness-based interventions. Clinicians are encouraged to consider scope of practice, consultation, and collaborative care when working with complex trauma presentations.
