About Course

This 20-hour asynchronous online course is designed to support the development of foundational clinical skills in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders. The program provides a comprehensive overview of Pica, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, compulsive overeating, and related conditions. Participants will explore the etiology, clinical presentation, and evidence-based treatment approaches associated with these disorders. Particular attention is given to the manifestation of eating disorders across diverse and special populations, including men, athletes, and individuals from multicultural backgrounds. The course examines critical factors involved in the development and maintenance of eating disorders, including genetic and biological influences, personality traits, family dynamics, sexual orientation, and broader sociocultural and environmental variables. In addition, the medical and physiological consequences of eating disorders are reviewed, along with a wide range of treatment and prevention strategies. To enhance clinical application, the program includes numerous real-world clinical interviews with individuals experiencing disordered eating. These cases illustrate the complexity and variability of presentations in practice, including the presence of co-occurring disorders and other complicating factors. This micro-credential is designed to build practical, foundational competency in working with individuals experiencing eating disorders. Successful completion of the program awards 20 hours of continuing education credit, along with a digital badge that may be displayed on professional platforms such as your website or LinkedIn profile.

Speaker Profile

Dr. Gregory Neimeyer

As a lifetime inductee of the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars, much of Dr. Neimeyer’s career has been dedicated to teaching and training in the areas of psychodiagnostics and psychopathology. His professional development trainings on Behavioral and Technology-based Addictions have been presented nationally and internationally in a wide variety of academic, community, and hospital contexts, as well as to mental health associations, agencies, and organizations.   Dr. Neimeyer is professor emeritus in the Department of Psychology at the University of Florida, where he served as the Graduate Coordinator and Director of Training in the doctoral program in counseling psychology.  He also has served as the Chair of the Executive Board of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs in the United States and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, as well as the recipient of its Award for Outstanding Achievement in Career and Personality Research. Dr. Neimeyer has published widely in the area of professional development and has served as the Director of the Office of Continuing Education in Psychology at the American Psychological Association in Washington, D.C.  His work draws on his extensive clinical experience in medical residency training programs, VAMCs, university counseling centers, and private practice.
